Inordertoresolvethetrafficcongestionproblem,manycable-stayedbridgesaredesignedwithalargewidthtospanratio.Thisresultsinsignificantshearlageffecttocausenonuniformstressdistributionalongtheflangesofthebeamofbridge.ThispaperreportsstudyontheshearlageffectoftheLanzhouXiaoxihuYellowRiverBridge.A3Dfiniteelementmodelofthebridgewasdevelopedandfiniteelementanalysis(FEA)wasdonetoobtainthetheoreticalresults.Toevaluatethetheoreticalresults,ascaledmodelwasmadetoconductstatictestinlaboratory.TheexperimentresultsaccordedwiththeresultsobtainedbyFEA.ItisprovedthatFEAisaneffectivemethodtopredictshearlageffectofbridgesofthistype.
