UsingvideofilmscanbeaveryeffectivewayofteachingandlearningEnglishonlywhenthefilmsareproperlyselectedandsomeactivitiesareorganizedaroundthem.Thispaperoffersthecriteriaforchoosingfilmsandsuggestssomeactivitiesforavarietyoflanguageteachingpurposes.AsvideounitsandvideofilmsinEnglisharenowmoreeasilyavailable,theuseofvideofilmshasbecomeanincreasinglyimportantcomponentofteachingEnglishasaforeignlanguage.HereIusetheterm"videofilm"inaloosesensetomean"featurefilmonvideo".Inrecentyears,textbookshaveappearedinChina,suchasEnglishThroughFilms(WuQing,YangLimin1993)andEnglishandAmericanFilms
