Introduction PanaxquinquefoliumL.BelongstothePanaxgenusoftheAraliaceae.ItoriginatesinAmericaandCanada.Itsroots,afamousandexpensivetraditionalChinesemedicinalmaterial,havebeenstudiedcontinuallysinceitssuccessfulcultivationinChinainthe1970s.Inrecentyearsthedevelopmentandutilizationresearchesofitsaerialpart,whichwasabandonedinthepast,havebeenconducted.Theconstituentstudiesontheleaves,stemsandfruitshavebeenreported.Butnoinformationabouttheflowerbudshasbeenfoundinliteratures.TheauthorshavereportedastudyaboutthechemicalconstituentsoftheflowerbudsoftheP.QuinquefoliumcultivatedinChina.Inthepresentworktwoflavonoids(namelykaempferolandpanasenoside)intheflowerbudsoftheP.QuinquefuliumcultivatedinChinawereextracted,isolated,andidentified.Sincethemedicinalmaterialswereprocessedwithanunusualtreatment,thecontentdeterminationofthemonomericandtotalflavonoidinthedifferentpartswereperformedcorrectlywiththemethodsofdual-wavelengthTLC-scan,andUV-absorption,anditwasdiscoveredthattherewereflavonoidsintherootsandfruitsoftheP.Quinquefolium.ThescientificbasiswasprovidedfortheutilizationoftheflowerbudsandotherpartsresourcesoftheP.
