Carbothermic Reduction of Zinc Oxide Concentrate by Microwave

摘要 Industrialapplicationofmicrowave,asaheatingsourceformaterialprocessing,wasreviewed.Thefeasibilityofcarbothermicreductionofzincoxideconcentrate,aswellastheeffectofoperatingparameterswasinvestigated,usingahomestylemicrowaveovenat2.45GHz.Zincoxideconcentratedoesnoteffectivelyabsorbmicrowaveenergy,whileanysourceofcarbon,whichisusedasthereductionagent,absorbsmicrowaveenergyverywell.Inthisrespectcokebreezewasfoundtobethebest,andthus,cokewasusedbothasthereducingagentandtheabsorbentofmicrowaveenergy.Itwasalsofoundthatanyincreaseinthecarboncontentandsize,increasesthereductionrate.Increasingthemicrowavepowerandthesizeofthesamplecouldalsoincreasethereductionrate.Furtherinvestigationshowsthatwhenzincoxideisexposedtothemicrowaveforsometime,therateofthereductionbyconventionalmethodincreases.
