The26thDecember2004earthquakeofMw9.3isthesecondlargestearthquakeevertohavebeenrecorded.ThisgeneratedatsunamiwhichaffectedseveralAsiancountries.InIndia,theAndaman&Nicobargroupofislands,andcoastalstatesofTamilNadu,AndhraPradeshandKeralawereseverelyaffected.Here,webrieflyprovideanoutlineoftheapproachtakenbyIndiaforanearlywarningsystemformitigationofoceanogenicdisasters.
