ItisthefactthatscholarsoutsideChinaplungedintostudyingKingGesarearlierthantheirChinesecounterparts,andBiographyofKingGesarinMongolianprintedusingwoodcarvingblocksappearedearlierthanthehand-copiedGesar.In1716,BeijingpublishedthefirstsevenchaptersofBiographyofKingGesserinMongolian,printedusingwoodcarvingblocks,whichsoonspreadoverseastothegreatinterestofscholarsinRussiaandGermany.ARussianscholarturnedtheBeijingeditionintoRussianin1936,andmadeananalysisoftheepic.In1883,G.N.Potanin,aRussianscholar,foundahand-copiedvolumeoftheepicinAmdo,andquotedpartofitinhistreatises,thusbeginningthehistoryoftheTibetanepicbeingintroducedtotheoutsideworld.In1900,A.H.Francke,amissionary,publishedhiseditionofKingGesarthatcontainedoriginalsjotted
